The Bellydance Program

Chemagne offers a unique Belly Dance program designed to help students to learn Belly Dance, experience the many health benefits of dance and movement, and help students to grow and develop their dance skills. The Chemagne Dance program offers a modern and healthy approach to traditional Belly Dance instruction that is inspired by the foundations of yoga, pilates, and Belly Dance technique. Creative expression through dance and movement is also achievable because Chemagne’s teaching method involves fluidity of movement, learning to move with the expression and rhythms of music, and improving on technique.

These classes are for students who embrace Belly Dance as an artistic dance form. Chemagne Dance helps conscious, motivated, inspiring students to learn the art of Belly Dance through healthy body movement. Learn to Belly Dance in a progressive, supportive, and encouraging environment.

About Chemagne

Chemagne Martin is a multi-faceted artist who has been working in the arts and entertainment industry for over 20 years. A professional Bellydance dance performer and instructor for 18 years; Chemagne's style combines years of experience as a dancer and yoga practitioner with a love for dance and movement. Chemagne has been featured on television shows and magazines, like Health and Lifestyle Magazine Canada, Diva Girl Dish, the Caribbean Current, SMJ Magazine, Rogers Daytime Toronto, CP24 Breakfast TV, and Three TakesTalk Show. She has also been a guest speaker at women's conferences, such as The Canadian International Black Women's Event (CIBWE), The Diva Girl Conference, and the Ignite n' Connect event hosted by Positive Fabulous Women. Other credits include, Owner/Operator of Chemange Dance Studio from 2009 - 2012, 2nd place winner at the Fitness Star Competition in 2009, and dance choreographer for Miss Black Beauty Canada in 2012. In 2014, Chemagne launched her instructional DVD, "Chemagne Bellydance for Beginners Vol. 1", and released her Bellydance CD music album "Chemagne 1010" in 2016. She was also nominated for Best Traditional Dance Artist by the Black Canadian Awards Association in 2014, and in 2015 and recognized by the CIWBE as Canada's 100 Black Women To Watch.

Chemagne has taught classes and workshops at many studios in Toronto, and has performed at various venues and special events across North America like St. Lawrence Centre for the arts, Toronto Centre for the arts, Nathan Phillips Square, Harbourfront Centre, Irie Music Festival, International Jerk and Jazz, Toronto African Festival, Miss Black Beauty Canada, and Rakkasah West in San Francisco, to name a few.

Chemagne's dance training started at a young age in jazz, baton twirling, and Caribbean dance. Since discovering Bellydance in 1999, Chemagne's passion for dance began to change. She was so intrigued by the dance that she took classes with many teachers in North America (Please refer to the Chemagne Dance Resume for a list of teachers and certifications). In addition, she took several bellydance workshops and classes in other dance forms like jazz, ballet, modern, Latin dance, African dance, Classical Indian dance (Oddissi) pole dance fitness, yoga, and Pilates. In 2005 Chemagne established her company Chemagne Dance, giving her the opportunity to teach and share her experience with others the art of Bellydance. With a diverse and unique dance background, Chemagne has taken a fresh and modern approach to teaching and performing.

In addition to her many talents as a dance artist, Chemagne is a stand-in actor and costume assistant in the film and television industry, and a fashion designer, in which she created her own clothing designs in 2010. Prior to immersing herself as a full-time artist, Chemagne worked in the financial industry. She has a B.A. in Political Science from York University, did graduate course work in Environmental Studies at Wilfrid Laurier University, and received a diploma in Fashion Design from George Brown College.
